Solicitor or Equivalent Clinical Negligence Grade C - Manchester (Birth Injury)

Role:

The role will involve assisting a partner and senior solicitor on a variety of Birth injury and neonatal injury cases, relating to clients with brain injury, cerebral palsy, erbs palsy, ADHD/Autism, hearing and sight loss and bowel problems.

You will assist in the running of a caseload of Birth Injury/Neonatal injury cases from inception to trial, always under supervision and in line with current company policies and legal requirements. You will also, when at the appropriate time, run a small case load of your own lower value cases.

You will assist experienced senior lawyers with collating medical records, instructing experts, instructing counsel, taking witness statements, preparing for and attending settlement meetings and preparing cases for trial. You will also be expected to delegate work to more junior members of the team and mentor and coach them in their development.

Experience of working on birth injury cases is not essential but experience of working on clinical negligence files and a passion to work in this complex and rewarding area of work is required. You will be required to work from the Manchester office a minimum of 1 day a week (more if preferred) and will be able to work remotely the rest of the week.

You will join an expanding team with a steady stream of new cases and work with experienced lawyers in a friendly and supportive environment who will support you in your learning and career development.

Main Responsibilities:

Accountable for:

  • Providing support, guidance and assistance to the team to deliver outstanding service to clients
  • Contribute to proactive and commercial case management and progression across the team
  • Supporting the Team Leader/Head of Department in ensuring the delivery of the team’s financial and performance KPIs
  • Effective and thorough time recording

    Responsible for:

  • Updating clients on case progression
  • Discussing and agreeing case tactics and planning with the Team Leader/Head of Department and members of the team
  • Identifying and driving cases which are ready for LOC, settlement, and service within the team
  • Working with the team to ensure that relevant information is being collected and collated to enable the progression of the case
  • Drafting of legal documentation including LOC, letters of instruction
  • The settlement and the issuing and service of proceedings should it be required
  • Overseeing the documentation and correspondence produced by junior members of the team

    Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Recent experience of working on clinical negligence cases
  • NQ- 5 years PQE or equivalent experience working in Clinical Negligence
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills
  • Excellent IT skills especially in respect of Microsoft Office packages, proclaim and excel
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong commercial awareness within a legal environment
  • Ability to work well with junior team members, providing coaching and mentoring
  • Flexible and willing to commit to achieving results and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent Client Care Skills
